BOROUGH PRESIDENT AND GOOD JOBS NEW YORK TEAM UP TO LINK COMMUNITY BOARDS WITH INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT AGENCY PROJECTS
Queens Borough President Helen Marshall and the Good Jobs New York organization announced Tuesday, May 12th that they have teamed up to create informational brochures for each of the county’s 14 community boards that describe economic development projects in their neighborhoods.
“The national economic crisis has had an impact in Queens, where we have lost jobs and need government assistance and resources to retain jobs,” said Marshall. “That’s exactly why I partnered with Good Jobs New York to produce these “Subsidy Snapshots.”
“We are proud to have teamed up with Borough President Marshall to create the “Subsidy Snapshots,” particularly today when jobs and resources are scarce,” said Ms. Bettina Damiani, of Good Jobs New York. “These snapshots are a unique tool to connect Queens’ residents to job opportunities.”
Each of the 14 brochures provides a map with economic development projects supported by the City’s Industrial Development Agency (IDA). The IDA provides financial assistance to a variety of businesses through the issuance of tax-exempt bonds, tax breaks and other financial inducements that generate a company’s commitment to retain or expand jobs in the city.
Since 1999, Good Jobs New York, a privately-funded not-for-profit organization, has promoted accountability in development that are subsidized by the State and City governments that provide tax breaks in exchange for jobs.
“I thank Good Jobs New York and the City’s Economic Development Corporation for their efforts to support businesses in Queens and expand the number of opportunities for jobs and economic growth,” said Marshall.
The brochures can be obtained by calling Ms. Melva Miller in the Queens Borough President’s office at (718) 286-2655 or by sending a stamped, self-addressed, letter size (No.10) envelope to: Ms. Melva Miller, Queens Borough President’s Office, 120-55 Queens Boulevard, Kew Gardens, New York 11424.
