Queens Borough President Helen Marshall, the City Economic Development Corporation, the Department of Small Business Services and the Willets Point Minority and Women-owned Business Enterprise (MWBE) and Local Hiring Task Force will hold a workshop on how businesses can get certified as an MWBE.
The workshop will be held on Tuesday, May 19th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Queens Borough Hall, located at 120-55 Queens Boulevard in Kew Gardens.
“This workshop is an important one for businesses interested in future developments, including Willets Point – the biggest building project currently planned in Queens County,” said Marshall.
Organizers said that eligible firms for status as a MWBE must have been in business for more than one year and be at least 51 percent-owned by a minority or woman.
Marshall explained that being certified as a MWBE company can result in having valuable access to contracting opportunities in the city and free advertising in an online business directory.
Tuesday’s workshop will provide an introduction and overview of the application process. On June 2nd, a followup event will include application review and analysis.
