Queens Borough President Helen Marshall and the Queens Poet Laureate Committee will celebrate an evening of words and songs of outstanding poets and troubadours, including Queens’ own Poet Laureate, Julio Marzan.
The celebration - Poetry Speaks in Many Tongues, Sings in Many Voices - will be held at the Langston Hughes Community Library and Cultural Center on Wednesday, May 27th from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The library is located at 100-01 Northern Boulevard in Corona.
“Our Queens Poet Laureate brings the joy and love of poetry all-year-round to our schools, libraries and cultural institutions,” said the Borough President. “And, I am delighted that he will be a part of Wednesday’s event, which celebrates the creative spirit found in all of us. A world of diversity of artistic expression can be found right here in Queens,” added Marshall.
Marzan, who was appointed by Marshall and the Poet Laureate Committee in 2007 as the borough bard, has published two collections of poetry, Translations Without Originals and Puerta de Tierra. A professor of English at Nassau Community College, Mr. Marzan has seen his works published in various anthologies, and has published translations and non-fiction works.
