Queens Borough President Helen Marshall, the City’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) and the Greater Allen AME Cathedral said that a forum on the “Fundamentals of Buying and Owning a Home” will take place on Saturday, June 20th.
The free forum will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Allen Christian School, located at 171-10 Linden Boulevard in Jamaica.
Information will be available on HPD’s HomeFirst Down Payment Assistance Program and its other low-interest loan programs. Foreclosure prevention services will be offered by the Center for New York City Neighborhood’s network partners, along with mortgage products that fit individual needs.
Space is limited. Those individuals wishing to attend Saturday’s event should call 311 ahead of time to confirm their attendance.
Both Marshall and Mayor Michael Bloomberg have allocated funding to non-profit legal services to prevent foreclosures.
The foreclosure crisis has dramatically hit New York City over the past two years with areas of southeast Queens hit especially hard.
