On behalf of the people of Queens, I extend condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Lance Cpl. Leopold Damas, who was killed while serving his country in Afghanistan.



This brave marine, who was from Floral Park, was only 26 years old but now joins the ranks of our honored war dead and lies among those who “gave the last full measure of devotion.”



News of his death comes on the eve of national elections amidst violence in Afghanistan and reminds us all of the heavy toll that Operation Enduring Freedom so far away in Helmand Province can take here at home.
