NO.38-10 FOR RELEASE: WEDNESDAY, JULY 7, 2010 BOROUGH PRESIDENT HELEN M. MARSHALL, COUNCILMAN PETER KOO AND AMERIVENTS PARTNER TO KEEP JOBS IN QUEENS DURING 2010 U.S. TENNIS OPEN

7/7/2010 - Queens Borough President Helen M. Marshall, City Councilman Peter Koo and Amerivents Event Staffing & Management are partnering on an initiative to keep the lion’s share of 700 concession jobs in Queens during the 2010 U.S. Open Tennis Championships in Flushing next month. This is the first year that Amerivents is staffing the concession stands and its third year providing staff to the Open.

Through the initiative, Amerivents is looking for Queens residents first to fill positions, including concession stand managers, cashiers, cooks and line servers. The U.S. Tennis Open runs from August 30 to September 12. The jobs are available from August 23, to cover qualifying tournaments and Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day on the 28th.

“This partnership is the latest in a series of initiatives by my office to provide Queens residents with employment opportunities. The jobs created by the 2010 US Tennis Open will provide critical support to many residents who need to make it through these tough economic times”, said Marshall. “That is why I have partnered with Amerivents to invite borough residents to apply for these jobs right here in Queens in a world-class venue.”

“Amerivents community based efforts in connecting Queens residents to these jobs not only exhibit their commitment to filling the positions locally, they will also boost the local economy particularly today when jobs and resources are scarce,” added Marshall.

To be considered for these employment opportunities, applicants must first register online at www.amerivents.com (go to “Talent Registration” and submit a profile). Any additional questions can be forwarded to usopen@amerivents.com

Follow-up interviews will be conducted in Queens at many locations throughout the borough kicking off at:

· Tuesday July 13, 2010, 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Queens Borough Hall
120-55 Queens Boulevard, Room 213
