PLANNING and LAND USE:
Reports

Advancing A Local and Regional Transportation Network A Proposal to Coordinate Major Rail Systems in the Borough of Queens - September 1991, Revised June 1993

Several modes of transportation, controlled by different transportation authorities, cross paths in Queens without connections or links between them. The transportation authorities are now independently proceeding with their own planned improvements. This report advocates the creation of an intermodal station, at the Sunnyside Rail Yard in Long Island City, that would provide connections between existing mass transit and commuter rail lines with potential for new rail links to both LaGuardia and Kennedy Airports in Queens.

Willets Point A New Direction - May 1993
Willets Point is within minutes of both Queens airports, in close proximity to major arterial highways, situated next door to world class recreational and cultural facilities - USTA National Tennis Center, Shea Stadium, Hall of Science, Queens Theater in the Park, Queens Museum - of Flushing Meadows Corona Park. Willets Point A New Direction proposes that the area should be developed with higher and better uses, such as a Multi-use Business Center or an International Trade Pavilion, that better suit the locational advantages.

Aqueduct Race Track Study - August 1994
Over the years there have been reports about the closure of the Aqueduct Race Track and sale of the 200+ acre property by New York Racing Authority. Although Aqueduct is surrounded by low-density residences existing zoning would allow inappropriate semi-industrial uses. The study provides a framework for rezoning the racetrack property and recommends reuse of the site with needed housing, open space and community facilities.

Creedmoor Master Plan - June 1999
The New York State Office of Mental Health is proceeding to sell portions of the Creedmoor Campus. The master plan was conceived by the Creedmoor Working Group to recommend development types and design guidelines that would be most compatible with the neighboring area. The master plan proposes low density housing and a public education complex on the unneeded portions of the Creedmoor site.
