"The Road Warrior" is a multifaceted program developed by the Queens Borough President’s Office to reach teenage drivers who have just gotten or are about to get their license. One part of the program features a 30 minute assembly performance that draws from real life situations and headline making events. The object of the performance is to make new drivers aware of the dangers and responsibilities of operating an automobile. The show covers issues such as common courtesy, driving without a license, driving while intoxicated, aggressive driving and peer pressure.

In addition to this performance, the Queens Borough President’s Office has developed and produced an educational comic book called "The Road Warrior." This book features a car with a life of its own. It can change itself from a 1950 classic, to a sports utility vehicle, to a family sedan, while it delivers a safety message. The comic book also supports the dramatic content of the assembly program and will be given to each teenager attending the performance. A copy of the "Road Warrior" comic book may be obtained from the Queens Borough President’s office; call 1-718-286-2800.

This program is funded through a grant from the Allstate Foundation and the New York State Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee.
