2nd THURSDAY NIGHT JAZZ (October 10th – June 11th)
Known as the “home of jazz”, Queens has nurtured numerous heavy hitters in Jazz history, such as Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Fats Waller and Dizzy Gillespie. To revive the hot hub jazz scenes in Queens, Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning (JCAL) continues its 2nd Thursday Night Jazz Series 2019-2020 season in partnership with The Jazz Gallery for the 3rd consecutive year. This compelling concert series features some of today’s finest international emerging jazz musicians performing at JCAL on the second Thursday of each month from October 2019 through June 2020. All concerts start at 8:00 PM with $10 general admission (one-set), at Jamaica Arts Center where JCAL transforms its community gallery into a jazz cafe.
The 2019 – 2020 Season opens in October with three-time Grammy Award winner Tivon Pennicott. The season includes the Cuban vocalist Melvis Santa; the new Avant-garde voice Anna Webber; rising start drummer Jeremy Dutton; improviser and pianist Luis Perdomo; Latvian singer Arta Jekabsone; Jamaician trumpet Giveton Gelin; vibraphonists Chris Dingman; and Croatian jazz singer Thana Alexa.
